Many non-EU medical-doctor applicants face a zero application quota through 31 December 2026. Check a listed exception before planning registration.

Current restrictions

Restricted for many non-EU doctor applicants

The zero quota can affect UK nationals and UK-trained doctors. Exceptions include EU/EEA nationality, existing lawful Danish residence, specified local qualifications and qualifying specially-requested employment. An ordinary job offer does not establish an exception.

Other professions

The cited restriction is specific to doctors, not a universal healthcare rule. Other professions require their own Danish registration checks. Where the non-EU doctor route is available, language, medical tests and adaptation employment may apply.

Qualification recognition ≠ permission to practise
Automatic or direct recognition describes a particular qualification procedure. Registration, language, scope, supervision, employment and immigration requirements can still apply. A UK licence or job title alone does not settle the route.

Source-led overview checked 28 October 2026. Use the exact award, date and profession when checking the regulator’s rules.

Four checks before you commit

  1. Match your exact qualification, award date and professional register to the local route.
  2. Confirm language, supervision, specialty recognition and any assessment requirements.
  3. Verify the role, employer, training status and written offer.
  4. Check work rights, housing and the household budget separately.
Look beyond the headline
Recognition of a qualification is not a licence to start work. Registration, scope, employment, language and work rights need separate confirmation.

Start with your profession

Each card separates a mapped official source from an authority lookup. A medical-registration route must not be applied to another profession.
