Destination guide · MALTA

Your next chapter
in Malta.

An EU destination with English used professionally, but UK credentials should not be presented as automatically recognised after Brexit. The applicable route depends on qualification, nationality and acquired rights.

Individual assessment

Individual assessment and language checks

Seek Medical Council Malta assessment for the correct provisional, full, temporary or specialist category. A non-EU route can involve the statutory examination. GP and specialist practice need Specialist Accreditation Committee recognition. The Council's current non-EU application asks for qualifications, professional standing, experience and language evidence.

Other professions

The Medical Council also regulates dental surgeons. Nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, allied-health and veterinary applicants need their own Maltese regulator. Do not treat a medical-registration rule as a shared route for all seven professions.

Qualification recognition ≠ permission to practise
Automatic or direct recognition describes a particular qualification procedure. Registration, language, scope, supervision, employment and immigration requirements can still apply. A UK licence or job title alone does not settle the route.

Source-led overview checked 28 October 2026. Use the exact award, date and profession when checking the regulator’s rules.

Four checks before you commit

  1. Match your exact qualification, award date and professional register to the local route.
  2. Confirm language, supervision, specialty recognition and any assessment requirements.
  3. Verify the role, employer, training status and written offer.
  4. Check work rights, housing and the household budget separately.
Look beyond the headline
Check the current language standard directly: the non-EU application lists English or Maltese evidence, while the published medical requirements also discuss clinical-language obligations. Registration permits seeking work; it does not supply a job or immigration permission.

Start with your profession

Each card separates a mapped official source from an authority lookup. A medical-registration route must not be applied to another profession.
