Recognition / streamlined routes

Listed qualifications; conditional registration

SMC conditional registration can be available with a listed basic medical degree or an SMC-recognised postgraduate qualification, an approved employer, acceptable internship, active practice and good standing. Clinical work is supervised. Exact medical school, qualification and any programme conditions matter; GMC registration alone is insufficient. Specialist accreditation is a separate requirement. Direct entry to certain private family medicine roles requires qualifying credentials, such as MRCGP, and additional experience.

Other professions

The Singapore Nursing Board assesses foreign-trained nurses and midwives through an eligible employing institution; examinations, competency assessment or provisional registration can apply. Dentistry, pharmacy and other clinical scopes have their own requirements. Veterinary practice is outside medical registration and needs separate checks.

Qualification recognition ≠ permission to practise
Automatic or direct recognition describes a particular qualification procedure. Registration, language, scope, supervision, employment and immigration requirements can still apply. A UK licence or job title alone does not settle the route.

Source-led overview checked 28 October 2026. Use the exact award, date and profession when checking the regulator’s rules.

Four checks before you commit

  1. Match your exact qualification, award date and professional register to the local route.
  2. Confirm language, supervision, specialty recognition and any assessment requirements.
  3. Verify the role, employer, training status and written offer.
  4. Check work rights, housing and the household budget separately.
Look beyond the headline
Recognition of a qualification is not a licence to start work. Registration, scope, employment, language and work rights need separate confirmation.

Start with your profession

Each card separates a mapped official source from an authority lookup. A medical-registration route must not be applied to another profession.

Places and roles to research

  • Public healthcare clusters
  • Community care
  • Approved institutions

Compare the actual role, roster, language and support in your chosen location. Training accreditation and specialist privileges need their own confirmation.

A life that works beyond the job

Build a location-specific budget. Include transport, housing deposits, temporary accommodation and the gap before your first salary. For households, add partner work plans, childcare and school access.
